CESR is seeking to appoint two new Board Members who are committed to advancing social justice through human rights–based approaches to economic policy. We are looking for engaged, thoughtful individuals who are willing to contribute actively to Board and committee responsibilities.

Role 1: Board Member – Finance, Audit and Risk Committee (FARC) – New York State Based

We are seeking a Board Member to join the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and to serve as an authorised signatory on CESR’s Citibank accounts. Due to the practical banking and administrative aspects of this role, this Board Member must be based in New York State.

Key responsibilities

 • Serve as a full member of the Board, contributing to strategy, oversight, and organisational stewardship
 • Sit on the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, supporting oversight of financial management, internal controls, risk, and audit processes
 • Act as a banking signatory with Citibank, including approval of transactions and support for maintaining appropriate financial controls
 • Support practical administrative and financial governance processes linked to CESR’s US operations
 • Provide constructive challenge and support to management on financial sustainability and risk

We are particularly interested in candidates with

 • Senior experience in finance, accounting, audit, risk, or financial governance
 • Experience serving on a board or finance/audit committee
 • Confidence working with financial information at a governance level
 • Sound judgement, integrity, and reliability in handling fiduciary responsibilities

Role 2: Board Member – Governance Committee

We are also recruiting a Board Member to serve on the Governance Committee.

Key responsibilities

 • Serve as a full member of the Board
 • Sit on the Governance Committee, supporting oversight of governance frameworks, Board effectiveness, policies, and compliance with by-laws
 • Contribute to strengthening Board processes, succession planning, and good governance practice
 • Support a culture of accountability, inclusion, and ethical leadership

We are particularly interested in candidates with

 • Experience in governance, legal, regulatory, or organisational leadership roles
 • Understanding of nonprofit governance and Board responsibilities
 • Experience with policy development, governance reviews, or board effectiveness work

Time commitment

 • One Board meeting per quarter (maximum 2 hours)
 • Up to four FARC meetings per quarter (maximum 1.5 hours each)
 • Occasional additional input between meetings

Term and remuneration

 • Board Members are appointed for a term of three years, renewable up to a maximum of nine years in total
 • These are voluntary (unpaid) positions
 • Reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out Board duties will be reimbursed

All board members are expected to

 • Demonstrate a clear commitment to CESR's mission and values
 • Prepare for and attend Board and other relevant committee meetings
 • Engage actively and collaboratively with fellow board members and staff
